About elematch
We’re not fortune-tellers
elematch was founded by Mr. Lau, who brings a decade of international corporate management and decision-making experience. Our background is management and operations — not metaphysics.
That distinction shapes everything the product does and doesn’t do. We don’t read destinies or forecast the year ahead. We took a language many Chinese-heritage teams already half-know, and turned it into something a team can actually use to talk about working together.
Why we built it
Manage teams long enough and one pattern repeats: teams rarely struggle because someone isn’t good enough. They struggle because two people work differently and have no shared language for that difference.
The established tools — MBTI, DiSC, Belbin — all address this, and address it well. But used with Chinese-heritage teams, every workshop starts with half an hour of teaching the framework: what an N type is, what a D style means. The vocabulary is borrowed, everyone is politely engaged, and it’s forgotten by the following week.
The five elements need no such introduction. Wood, fire, earth, metal, water — most people already have a feel for them.
We’d spent years studying the BaZi framework, and gradually saw something: strip away the fortune-telling, the predictions, the auspicious dates, and what remains is a typology — five energies, ten relational patterns — structurally the same kind of thing as DiSC’s four colours or Belbin’s nine roles. A language for describing difference. Except this one already lands.
elematch is that translation, built into a product: the personal insight describes how you work; the team map shows how the team works together.
Three things we believe
Development, not judgement. A report’s value is the conversation it starts, not its accuracy. If it rings true, that’s a good opening. If it doesn’t, where it misses is the best discussion material you’ll get all day.
Voluntary by design. Each person reads their own report and decides whether to share it. The team map never displays anyone’s individual timing content.
Never for evaluating others. This is the one we hold most firmly: elematch isn’t a hiring or promotion tool, and shouldn’t become a reason anyone gets scored. We wrote out our reasoning here.
A few things we deliberately don’t do
We don’t tell fortunes or predict outcomes — not out of caution, but because the framework can’t, and we won’t pretend otherwise.
We don’t claim scientific validation. The five elements are a traditional cultural framework, not a psychometric instrument — which is true of every popular personality tool, just less often said aloud.
Reports are generated by automated systems including AI, and we say so on the site. What the AI does here is translate — framework into work language — not compute anyone’s destiny.
The full rules live in our usage guidelines.
